Sometimes things don’t work out. You prepare as thoroughly as you can, you follow all the right steps, you give everything you have. But, it still doesn’t happen for you.

Often people can feel demoralised. However, I think it’s a reason to be joyful. You’ve joined the happy few who can truly say that there’s nothing more they could have done.

Once you’ve accepted your fate, it’s important not to take the next step and question whether it was the right action. This should never be decided by the consequences. All you can do is make the best decision at the time. If I see someone being attacked across the road and I run over to help and get stabbed, I don’t believe I would have made the wrong decision. I made the right choice, it just didn’t end happily.

You shouldn’t spend your life second-guessing yourself after the fact. All each of can do is look in the mirror at the end of the day and ask whether we did the best we could at the time. If you can do that, then let it go.
